Built-In VPN for Windows 10 and Android
The app for Mozilla’s VPN-service, Firefox Private Network, is available in the Play Store. For the time being, only US users can download the app. After signing up for the beta version, users will be invited to trial it on a limited basis. Others can join the wait list. They will get notified when the app is launched in their country. The VPN can be installed on Windows 10 or Android devices, with other platforms coming soon. The beta version costs $4.99/month. It comes with a 30-day money back guarantee if you cancel within the first month of service. This price is on the low end of the VPN spectrum, so the full version will likely be accompanied with a price hike. Users can connect up to 5 devices at once. They can pick a server out of over 100 servers in 30+ countries.
What Makes Mozilla’s VPN Unique?
Unlike the free Firefox Private Browsing add-on, the new Firefox built-in full-device VPN encrypts all network activity on Windows and Android devices. iOs, Max and Linux support will be added in the future. To make its VPN possible, Mozilla teamed up with Mullvad VPN. This VPN service is well-regarded for its privacy policy and it does not log user data. Firefox Private Network also uses the WireGuard VPN protocol. This free and open-source software application seeks to provide more security and better performance. It also allows users to surf the Internet faster. Using a VPN has many advantages. Furthermore, Mozilla guarantees that users’ network traffic and browsing history will not be tracked. All user data will be fully hidden.
Half a Year in the Making
Mozilla has been testing the Firefox Private Network Browser extension in the US since September. While in beta, users receive 12 free one-hour passes each month. The browser extension version that has been available until now, however, has more limitations than the new app version. The browser extension functions as a browser proxy, and thus only secures users’ browser connections. Firefox Private Network browser protection uses a server provided by Cloudfare, who collects a limited amount of data and deletes it permanently after 24 hours.
